Organization...

I'm just curious about how the rest of you organize your digi supplies on your computer. Do you set up folders named after the websites you purchased the items? By designer? By how you are able to use the products, personal use/commercial use? Do you use a program to keep it all organized? (Password for freebie is 93spring? ) Do you store it all on a separate hard drive? I'm just curious, my digi stash is steadily growing and I think I need a better way to organize the items. I'd like to spend less time searching. Anyway, please leave me a comment telling me how you organize your digital scrapbook supplies on your computer. Thanks in advance.

I organize by designer then also have personal use and cu separated as well. I have 2 external hd's that I use to try to organize it all. Unfortunately, I've collected sooo much stuff though, that I honestly wouldn't consider this mess organization. I still can't find anything. lol

I organize by designer since designers sell in various stores and I can't keep up with that. In each designer folder I have a documentation folder where I keep a copy of the most current TOU I have. (The TOU's also stay with each folder/download from that designer as well.) I have another folder that is for receipts for some designers that I actually purchase their stuff. In the designer folder everything is organized by kit/package name like it came. I don't have subfolders beyond that - everything is in one folder. I use PSE 6.0 which has an organizer - so I tag everything by color, type (frame, ribbon, paper, glitter, etc), occasion (birthday, retirement, etc) and then holiday tags and so on. I have a whole different design section - where I have a folder I called designer toolbox. And all of my CU items are in that folder. I'm in the process of organizing that folder - because the way I have it doesn't work - some I remember by designer - others I remember by where I got it. So, I think I'm gonna go through and organize it by the specific item it is (ribbon, torn paper, action, style, etc.) Because when I use a CU file - it's normally, "Okay, I need some bling..." so I need a folder with "Bling." I also do Scrap 4 Hire. I was keeping everything in duplication that was S4H friendly - but now I just keep a list of all of the designers that are S4H friendly and licenses I've purchased. And then I have a section of CT stuff - the designers I CT for. All of this is on an External Hard drive my hubby got me for Valentine's Day. I didn't even know I needed it until I got it!

Thanks for the lovely pressie. I save digi scrapbooking stuff by the name of the designer. But I keep my Bought Kits separate to my freebie kits which I then found started getting quite confusing so if I have bought something from someone and they also offer freebies then everything goes into the bought folder and I just name the Bought ones so I can keep an eye on them and not purchase them twice!!! Which I have done a few times. I keep everything on an external hard drive but I first save them on the computer in a folder till I get around 4GB and then burn them on a disc first. I would hate to have to find anything on the discs but they are all there. I thought about using a couple of external hds but that would just get even more out of hand. I had one of my external hard drives with my PSP tubes throw a wobbly so I don't trust them. I still find it confusing trying to find doodles or word art etc. which I know I have so I am thinking of putting those sorts of things in their own folders but saving the name of the designer etc. with them. I don't think there is an easy way with this. Sometimes I find I spend so much time trying to organize everything I don't get time to play. So now it is my rule that if I get a QP I immediately find a photo and make the QP. I have a mountain of photos from the past (don't we all) so this way I plod my way through them. I wish this had all started 20 years ago when my mind was more reliable LOL

Thank You. I also organize my stuff kinda different. I organize by store and the designer. I have one main store that I shop at...call me a loyalist. If I have OTHER items from elsewhere (freebies, other kits, etc), I put them in a misc kit folder, then organized by designer if there are a lot by one person. I also have Misc Elements, templates, alphas, and tools.

I have a huge folder called Digital Scrapbook Supplies in My Documents. Inside, I have tons of folders labeled by the name of the kit. I also have a folder called "INDEX SHEETS FOR KITS" and I put a copy of all the previews in there so I can quicky look there when I'm looking for a certain color or type of kit. Sometimes I'll find things that aren't really a kit, just a random frame or template or something. I also have folders labeled Templates, Quick Pages, Paper, Embellishments (inside that I have multiple folders like frames, glitter, ribbons, tags, journaling spots, hearts, flowers, word art, etc.). I keep the TOU inside each folder with the kit it came with and on the other stuff like quick pages I just override the name of the TOU to be the same as the item (just with TOU afterwards) so it stays right next to it in alphabetical order inside my folder. I've thought about adding tags by designer and also what thigns are but I have so much stuff that seems way too daunting for me at this point.

By the way, THANK YOU for your beautiful freebies!

Oh, one other thing, I also have Picasa installed on my computer so that's nice because it automatically finds all my stuff and if I'm looking for something by name I can type it in the search field and usually find it, like if I know I want a frame I just type frame and usually kit designers will include "frame" in the file name so Picassa pulls it all up. That kind of helps with my indexing for right now.
